Almost Lover

03 Aug 2010

The next song on the agenda is Almost Lover by A Fine Frenzy. My friend actually saw Sudol perform live in a small bar once. She even took a picture with her! :O And the funny thing is, she’s a tall Asian girl, so she was stood over Sudol, lol. Err, this was way before I ever met my friend of course, but according to her, A Fine Frenzy was amazing live. I wish I could have been there as well. Anyways, it’d be great if more people listened to their stuff, so please do. ;)

A Fine Frenzy is based in Los Angeles, I believe… That is where my friend went to see them perform. And I just barely watched the music video now when I went to find it on youtube, =P but the beach that she’s at is called Santa Monica Beach. She’s at the pier, and there’s a small ferris wheel, so a lot of the shots where she’s on a ride above the ocean is also that. Err, the other major place is probably a mission somewhere, that’s my guess, but I’ve never been there, so… I can’t say I know anything about it. ;)

Grace Omega

02 Aug 2010

One of my other favorite song is Grace Omega from the film Jin-Roh, or The Wolf Brigade. It’s available in English as well, so if you have netflix or a movie rental place near you, please do rent out the movie and try watching it for yourself. ;)

You’ll probably get a good idea of exactly what my favorite songs are after I post up a few more options. I guess they’re all similar in some kind of way, but honestly each song is different (well, obviously?).

Time’s Scar

01 Aug 2010

My favorite song of all time would have to be Chrono Cross’s Time’s Scar, which is the opening song of the game. I’ve always loved this song, and I think it might stay way for a long, long time. In fact, I love a lot of Chrono Cross’s songs, but this one is definitely the defining song.

Rarely do songs with someone singing in it become a favorite of mine. I tend to get bored or tired of hearing the same person sing the same thing over and over again, and it begins to grate on my nerves. I mean, I’ll listen to it again every now and again, but soon the novelty disappears and I seem to have a hard time finding the magic in the song. Which is sad. I still like the song, it just doesn’t captivate me in the same as, well, when I first began to like listening to it? On the other hand, I’ve been listening to Time’s Scar for years now, and I still love it. The guitar that opens up the song, the flute’s melody that serenely cuts into the song, the violin that scissors away (and it was a really good violin, because it’s not squeaky, and I really dislike shrieking violins), that staccato sound that accompanies the violin, and the drums!! Ahhhh. It really is my favorite song of all time, I would say.

A Thought

14 Jul 2010

You see, I just realized that whenever I post something on my blog, I should really look at it as an opportunity to practice my writing. But I feel like it’s not worth it. I mean, it probably is, but what’s the point of trying to make everything sound like poetry? Style needs to develop naturally too, I think, so I don’t really need to make every single post sound like inane ramblings with five adjectives inserted in one sentence each. Hah. I did that, actually, and kure said that it was too much. *sigh* Well, it was fun, I must say.

Oh, and one of my favorite singers would have to be Órla Fallon. Of Celtic Woman fame, although I don’t really care about CW. I love her voice. If I could sing, I think I’d want to be like her. My roommate values being able to belt every single song and to be heard over every other singer, but that’s really not the only type of singing there is out there. I love the beautiful voices that can sing without feeling as if they have to gasp in lungfuls of air, and then sound like they’re shouting it all in order to make every single note they’re trying to hit. I mean, really. That’s nice most of the time, I guess, but there are other ways to singing, and it doesn’t always have to be so slap in your face loud.

Cello

03 Jun 2010

I prefer the cello over the violin. The deep soul-wrenching that’s like dark chocolate, all good for you and delightfully sinful!! And the violin is so squeaky and shrieky. Not that it’s not cool, I just prefer the cello over it.
